Brushing Tips for Kids Who Wear Braces

Article submitted By Remarkable Smiles Orthodontics.

Parents with kids who are wearing braces are often desperate for brushing tips. Kids may not be inclined to take care of their teeth properly especially if they are wearing braces. And that’s because it’s harder to keep your teeth clean with braces on. This is especially true if your kids are wearing the old fashioned metal type of braces.

Invisalign or other invisible aligners are much easier when it comes to brushing and flossing. You simply take them out and clean your teeth as usual. With metal braces, it is necessary to take your time and brush carefully in all the hard to reach places. This can be difficult for kids. One thing that can help is to start out by talking to your kids.

Explain how food and debris could get stuck in the braces and cause problems. This would result in them having to return to the orthodontist for a special cleaning. Most children would prefer any unnecessary trips to the dentist. Once they know the importance of this task, show them exactly how to brush in between the wires. Be sure they have the right type of toothbrush.

You may also want to find a good video online that shows exactly how to brush while wearing braces. Once your child knows the importance of this task, they have the right equipment and they understand how to brush properly, it should be simple.
